Few directors would dare to take on sensitive themes such as racism and handicaps in a porn film, but swashbuckling shooter B. Skow shows no fear with his latest feature Color Blind.
Set during the week of the infamous Los Angeles Riots more than 20 years ago, Skow goes all in with a story about an innocent blind girl (Kasey Warner) and her naughty older sister (Adriana Chechik) clashing with their tough-talking, blue-collar father (Steven St. Croix) who harbors extreme racist views.
Skow wastes no time setting the tone in the opening scene, when St. Croix’s character unleashes a flurry of offensive comments while watching the riots on TV with his family sitting around the kitchen table.
For those in need of a refresher, the mass looting, violence and civil unrest became a national tragedy during a six-day period in late April of 1992, when four LAPD officers were acquitted of charges of police brutality in the videotaped arrest and beating of Rodney King following a high-speed chase. Thousands of people took to the streets in protest, leading to a rash of lawlessness that resulted in more than 11,000 arrests, 2,000 injuries and 55 fatalities before the national guard and marines were called in to stop the mayhem.
That volatile social climate serves as the backdrop for Skow’s boiling narrative that sees St. Croix’s character forced to confront the extent of his prejudices through the choices of his daughters, who both are attracted to black men.
One of porn’s most unpredictable shot-callers, Skow has never been afraid to take on difficult subject matter in his features that often are as laced with social commentary as they are with pure filth.
And with Color Blind, he selected an all-pro cast that was up to the task. St. Croix commands one of this year’s most complex acting roles, proving again why he is considered among the finest porn actors of all time. In this wide-ranging performance, the bankable vet shows he’s still on top of his game, carrying the movie’s tension-filled scenes with both finesse and power. What he brings to his scenes not only drive this feature, it’s unlike anything put on the XXX screen this year. Chechik, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the industry’s top sex performers but here she also demonstrates a flair for drama.
The man-eating brunette goes toe-to-toe with St. Croix in scenes where she sticks up for her baby sister and calls out her father on his narrow-minded views. That’s not to mention the excellent effort from Kasey Warner, who brings an air of vulnerability to the unconventional role of Noelle that requires her to channel blindness.
The story takes off when a pair of handsome black brothers (Isiah Maxwell and Jovan Jordan) knock on the family’s door to spread the word of god.
“Love is blind,” Maxwell’s character Matthew tells St. Croix as his daughters look on. “Color is only color. Skin is just skin. A person is truly only created when the lord asks what matters most—the heart.”
St. Croix slams the door on the young missionaries, but Noelle is already smitten with Matthew.
Skow ratchets up the raunch in the next sequence as St. Croix porks his wife (Reena Sky) in their bedroom, while we also check in on Shauna (Chechik) shoving a big black dildo up her pussy—in the privacy of her room. In a delightfully dirty transition, Skow takes us back to St. Croix and Sky’s liaison as he pops on her ass crack.
The momentum continues when the parents head out to catch a movie—they decide on A Few Good Men—and leave their daughters home alone. Matthew and his brother come back to the house under the guise of picking up the bible he left behind, but really it’s so he can present Noelle with a bible of her own.
Shauna has other things in mind though, namely Matthew giving Noelle a deep-dicking, so she invites him inside. After Shauna retreats to her bedroom to sodomize herself with that same intimidating dildo—a solo session that damn near steals the show—things turn romantic between Noelle and Matthew.
“Would you mind if I asked you if I could feel your face?” she says to him. “You could feel mine too if you want.”
It’s an intimate moment that leads them back to Matthew’s place to bone in the flick’s most sensual coupling.
Things start unraveling when dad and mom get home from the movies and they can’t find Noelle. But what Dad does find is Shauna butt naked in her room holding the black dildo in a humorous moment. It all leads to an explosive exchange in which Dad is furious about Noelle’s whereabouts, while Shauna pleads with him that her sister is “happy and she’s in love.”
As she goes to leave, Dad threatens, “Do not walk out that door unless you come back with your sister and that black dude.”
“I will come back with both and I’ll bring a third for mom,” Shauna replies defiantly.
It wouldn’t be a B. Skow movie without a sick twist—and he delivers again as St. Croix goes to visit a black stripper named Rhonda (Layton Benton), with whom he’s been cheating. St. Croix and Benton throw down in a spirited balling and now we know Noelle and Shauna’s father is not only a racist, he’s also a hypocrite.
By this time, Shauna has found her way to the house where Matthew and his brother (Jordan) live, and she pairs off with Jordan for the hardest scene of the movie. Chechik and Jordan do four-plus positions of nasty anal before she receives a sloppy facial.
Meanwhile, Matthew decides he needs to face Noelle’s father “man to man” and apologize for taking his daughter to his house without permission, despite what might happen.
“I’ve been hated by men for no reason my entire life,” Matthew assures Noelle. “I’m not afraid. I love you.”
So Noelle, Shauna and the guys head back to the house and sit down with St. Croix and his wife in the kitchen, where things go south in a hurry. Matthew tells St. Croix’s character that he loves his daughter, and he pulls a gun.
Noelle pours her heart out. “Why are you doing this to our entire family?” she screams, crying. “I’ve never seen a single color in my entire life! If you were like me you’d understand but you’re not and you can’t and that makes me sad in a way I can never explain to someone like you.”
Showing some remorse, St. Croix tries to comfort Noelle.
“I’m sorry,” he says before the abrupt, gritty ending that won’t leave you feeling cheated but will make you think.
It’s another healthy dose of heavy-hitting hardcore from Skow & Co., who continue to go to dark places with dramatic effect and don’t apologize for it.
Fans who pick up the DVD get the bonus package as Disc 2 includes four more sex scenes from other B. Skow productions: Marie McCray and Steven St. Croix from Truth Be Told; Dillion Harper and Richie Calhoun from Southern Hospitality; Kasey Warner and Seth Gamble from In the Flesh; and Capri Cavanni, Riley Reid and Ryan McLane in Daddy’s Girls 2.
