Sex -- Michael Ninn's first feature for VCA, as he explains in an on-disc interview -- garnered several awards and even more nominations in 1994, so VCA has made the very wise move of converting that film and its sequel to DVD.  The choice, however, was to put both of the roughly 90-minute features on one side of one disc, and that was a mistake.

For one thing, while not affecting regular play of the films, something about the transfer seems to cause annoying dithering of the image in both fast-scan and still frame on some players, though not on higher-end machines.  Viewers will not notice any problem in regular play, though.

The large amount of data has also apparently limited the number and extent of extras that could be fit, leaving five animated "jump to scene" buttons and a dozen-photo slideshow for each feature, plus an abbreviated cast list that allows the viewer to jump to that gal's best scene, and three trailers for other Michael Ninn features.

We won't recap the plot, except to say that it involves the rise to and fall from stardom of, in the first movie, Gerry Pike, and in the later, Sunset Thomas.  Along the way, "producer" Tyffany Million figures heavily into the action -- especially that back-seat-of-the-cab fuck with Ritchie Razor as the old Checker roams the foggy city after dark.  Then there's the mini-orgy with Debi Diamond, Diva, Misty Rain and Gerry Pike that won Best Group Sex Scene at that year's Awards show.  (This was one of Debi's last features, as well as Diedre Holland's.) We also greatly enjoyed Shayla LaVeaux's cowgirl ride on Pike; Sunset's girl/girler with Tyffany and later, Debi; and the anal doggie action between Sunset and Zach Addams.

Retailers know that any Ninn production is a sure seller/renter, so minor technical failures aside, this is a must-stock item.
