Since Belle de Jour wasshot on film, unfortunately the picture on DVD appears rather grainy and dark. The sharpness of the digital format only seems to exacerbate the imperfections of the original. The digital transfer itself is fine; added noise was not detectable. Pornocide is a video, so the transfer to DVD was very good to this title; the picture came out crisp and clear with no added noise. However, points off both discs for the Dolby 5.1 claim not bearing out — they're really just in 2.0. Further detracting from the quality ratings for both discs is the irritating ploy of forcing the viewer to sit through phone sex ads before allowing access to the main menu.
