Levi Cash (obviously) directs this documentary style gonzo movie. Levi Cash’s Director’s Cut: Birthday Bash is a look behind the scenes of Cash’s lifestyle as a director, performer and haver of birthdays.
The box cover makes this pornumentary seem way more self absorbed and Hangover-y than it actually is. Really it’s a relaxed and fun look at the inner workings of a porn set. From the time the ladies arrive at the shoot to the impending sex they have, it’s circa-reality at its finest. Sure, Cash drops names of his other movies and mentions some awards that they’ve received, so the self-absorption is there, but it’s tolerable when it dissipates and turns back to seeing these fresh young girls rubbing their bodies against one another and, well, Cash himself.
It’s a healthy mix of amateur style shooting and the typical vision that Cash instills in his movies. The parts that are genuinely candid are apparent, but the little pieces that are embellished are nothing so bad as to ruin the reality that’s been established. All of the girls appear eager to please the birthday boy, and at times it really does feel like being a fly on the wall of a porn director’s birthday—mission accomplished.
