Although the grainy picture quality and so-so POV camerawork don’t add up to a whole lot in terms of production quality, Year of the Whore somewhat makes up for it with authenticity. The back of the DVD box declares that this footage was filmed and smuggled out of Hong Kong and Taiwan, and viewers have every reason to believe it.

Year of the Whore will have immediate appeal to those interested in underground style Asian porn — filmed on location by Americans, thereby distinguishing it from the standard, sometimes lackluster, hardcore exports from Asia.
