Reviews

I reviewed the premier edition of the Advocate Men Live video magazine series back in May, 1987, and haven't checked up on it since. From the looks of Number 6 the AML crew has clearly dug into a workable if not too exciting formula of mixing solo j.o. nudes along with an interview and just a touch of socially redeeming "art."

The interview is the best part of AML 6 —a pseudo-confrontational "interrogation" of maverick videomaker Christopher Rage. the badboy of gayporn turns out to be an unassuming Mr. Clean look-alike who went from Oklahoma City to Georgetown U. before setting in New York to make notorious underground nasties like Raunch and My Masters. Asked if he has a studio, Rage answers, "I have a big bedroom." Of the four j.o. segments, two carry the sultry stamp of director Kristen Bjorn, but they're at the low end for the Bjorn thermometer. The "arty" part of AML 6 is a little video poem with music called "The Bathhouse Blues", conducive to eyestrain and earstrain alike. ("One frozen finger sliding across barren thighs to meet another," etc.) I only wish the Rage interview had been longer.
