Soldiers isn't a half-bad production. The video's built as a star-vehicle for Tom Steele, but Steele, despite some impressive assets, is no Jon Vincent or even Jeff Stryker; he can't carry the thing alone. Fortunately, the director doesn't stay in the barracks for the whole video; they take us and the boys out into the woods for some war games, and Soldiers all of a sudden gets steamy.
Vincent de Paul, by design, often specializes in grungy-looking, street-smart videos. The camouflaged soldiers are smeared with grime, and they're not afraid of getting dirty when they play. And they play rough. Captured enemies get tied to a tree and stripped naked. Guns get poked into sensitive areas. The cast doesn't seem to need much direction. Viewers with a yen for uniforms, rope, grime and sweat should check it out. (Retailers note: superior packaging.)
