Hardhats Alex Kincaid and Tim Barnett share a ride to work. "I've left my wife," Alex tells Tim. We never see whether the construction project is one story or a high-rise, but we do see that these guys are not inclined to leave any stud unnailed. Pop culture gave us Madonna, and now the "material man" is Phillipe Simoneau who tells Alex that his materials have just been delivered – and the two trade supplies of a differet kind. The work is slow and Aaron Austin tells Tim that if they want to lay some pipe in Tim's conduit, the job won't be delayed. Kirk Jensen shows West how guys on the site lay pipe that's not on the blueprints. Bystander Lee Bowman (credited as Tony Anthony) buys a steak dinner for hard-hat Peter Gregory, who shows his new apprentice how to get an I-beam riveted into place. That evening, Tim listens as Alex confesses his dalliance with Simoneau and Tim is hurt because he had hoped to be the first. "I never knew," Alex laments, "but I'd like you to be second." Oddly, the carton credits top-rung director John Travis as John Trennel. It's a butch enough boxcover with an abundance of new names that will make this title rise on the rental charts, and should be a good renter for months to come.
