Moody shots of the dark, rain-slicked streets of Rio de Janeiro make a stunning opening for Brazil by Night. This involving documentary-style film tackles the topic of hustlers in South America. In subtitles, we learn how these rent boys live and love, earn their money and keep their sanity. Four sex scenes are also intercut with the revealing, often gritty, interviews. In fact, the action sometimes takes a backseat to the boys' honest accounts of life on the streets. Filmed at night in a seedy part of town, Brazil by Night has a lush, film noir look as the rain pours down and the hustlers hook up. In the first scene, Alan Bueno (and his fierce tattooed penis) entertains a client (Sandro Maia) in a hotel where they move the mattress to the floor to aid their uninhibited play. Then, three hustlers (Ramon Lemos, Carlos Gomes, Alex Jr.) decide that since business is so slow they will have some fun of their own. They are all attractive, smooth and at least one is working to earn money for school, but that doesn't stop them from sucking and fucking one another for free. Next, muscleman Luciano Andrade shows off his bulging arms and pecs before topping Vitor Jr. This duo provides some intense penetration footage, but Andrade is a bit too distant and self-conscious to make this scene truly electric. In the final coupling, Bueno returns to take on Adriano Costa in a nice romp on a couch. The picture quality in this scene and the others is very good, and there is a brisk, no-nonsense pace to the film. However, the interviews with the escorts, though fascinating, get a bit repetitive and overall tend to detract from the sex scenes. Brazil by Night often works better as a tell-all documentary than as an actual porn flick.
