The Big Switch is indeed a switch. It is an obvious takeoff on The Big Chill, and it concerns a group of friends, getting together after an absence of five years. As Bunny Bleu puts it, “this is a familiar scene.” Well, so is most of the dialogue. But what sets The Big Switch apart is that it's one of the few films around featuring both heterosexual and gay sex (of both sexes). So, not only do the men make it with the ladies, and the ladies with the ladies (pretty standard stuff), but the men make it with other men as well. For many of us, this is not an unappealing thought. There are those who find male gay sex extremely erotic. In The Big Switch, however, there are no scenes with only men. It’s two men and one woman, or vice-versa.

The opening sex scene has Bunny Bleu fantasizing about being tied up, and being taken by both Mark Miller and Michael Vincent, while they also enjoy each other’s pleasures. And so it goes, through a number of sexual situations and combinations.

Now, if only I could say The Big Switch is worthwhile. The problems are extremely obvious – the production values are nil. The video and technical quality are poor and at some points, the background hum is so loud, you can’t hear the dialogue. The editing includes several blackouts and many of the shots are standard stuff. There’s little exciting going on here: it’s as though someone said, “they’re getting varied sex. Why give them production values as well?” Truly a shame.

Also shameful is the low quality of the acting. Bunny is not too bad, but the rest of the cast sleepwalks through the film. Brian Maxim, especially, is one of the most uninspired, uninspiring actors I’ve ever seen. His sex scenes are dull, he has no enthusiasm, and he mumbles so much that you can barely make out his lines. The rest of the cast, while not horrible, is unexceptional.

There is a grand orgy finale, where everyone does it with everyone else, and they all get to know each other so much better. I really wanted to like The Big Switch. It sounded unusual and exciting. Unfortunately, you need more than just a good idea.
