Air Male is another video in what seems to be rapidly emerging as the major theme of the all-male industry for 1989 —the military drag film. This one decides that dressing some hot young guys up and renting a helicopter for a half-hour ride through the smoggy skies of Santa Monica with the camera stuck out the window makes for a erotic military story.

In addition to weak styling and story, Air Male makes the mistake of casting some very unlikely young men as hot-shot pilots: Brad Carlton and Michael Brandon in particular. Though it's very pleasant indeed to see Brandon's enormous entity again for the first time in a year, his speaking voice doesn't exactly exude an air of discipline and authority. The sex scenes are largely weak except for two notable exceptions: Matt Windsor's solo j.o. on a toilet and the very last scene of the picture: the meeting of Rockmore and Yeager.

This last scene comprises 35 percent of the videos running time, and for good reason. It isn't until Rockmore arrives at commanding officer Yeager's house 55 minutes into the feature that a story develops. It becomes a slow, sensuous duo between these two relative newcomers laced with lots of kissing and licking followed by some nice, sincere sex. It's by far the best part of Air Male. A nice touch is the forgoing of the predictable music soundtrack in favor of wind-chimes.

The feature as a whole might disappoint a renter or purchaser expecting a tight, gritty sexual adventure as the slick box suggests, but not those fans who want to place bets on what may be the young male couple of the year: Rockmore and Yeager.
