The vintage Western is textbook homoerotica, and the genre provides the perfect fodder for Chip Daniels with his penchant for uniform porn. A classic Western like The Outlaw, with Jane Russell, presents the characters of Doc Holliday (Walter Huston) and Billy the Kid (Jack Buetel) exhibiting brotherly love and jealousy, but stopping just shy of physical consummation. Not so with Daniels in Sharp Shooters, the latest offering from Centaur Films, where the subtext underlying cowboys-together-in-the-great-outdoors rises to the surface in all its physical glory like cream on milk. The woman is dispensable in the classic Western plot, though Howard Hughes viewed The Outlaw as a vehicle with which to expose the comely Russel to the viewing public. The Western remains a man's movie, and Daniels has even masculinized the standard dance hall whore in the interest of his mono-gender sexfest.
Sheriff Mark Mason (atop a white horse) and his sidekick Tony Cummins are in hot pursuit of the outlaw gang terrorizing Dry Gulch. They pause long enough to bed down for the night in long johns and boots, before doing the deed when morning arrives. Doffing the long johns but never losing the boots, Mason fucks Cummins much like he rides his horse. The plot advances, with Cummins returning reluctantly to the ranch before Mason finds Brett Cross asleep in the jail cell. Tongue-in-cheek humor and a witty dialog exchange lead one to believe that Cross will be the next to assume the position beneath the sheriff. Rather, Mason deputizes Cross to enlist his aid in foiling the outlaw gang.
Cut to the outlaw hangout, where leader K.C. Hart sends the gang out to procure another male whore while he test-drives bound and gagged Tony West, the whore already in their possession. A very vocal Hart fucks the totally submissive West all along the gamut of possible positions in a pre-nom worthy scene, culminating in not one, but three cumshots courtesy of Hart. This amazing feat has to be seen to be believed.
An aborted attempt to abduct Paul Morgan, whore number two, from the Dry Gulch tavern sends the outlaws to jail and jets Morgan into the bed of the bartender, Scott Davis. Morgan never fails to deliver an impressive geyser of cum, and his chemistry when getting fucked by Davis is positively explosive.
Fresh from the Argentine, the gaucho duo of Marco Antonio and Jean Rivera portray the jailed out-laws, who soon seduce deputy Cross into joining them in the cell. Rumored to be a couple off-screen, these Latinos are fine-looking newcomers who definitely enjoy their job. Antonio has a very sexy cock and really knows how to tease with it. Much oral action documented with in-your-face camera work soon leads to a rollicking threeway with Antonio and Cross taking turns topping Rivera. A spent Cross is left in post-coital captivity and the outlaws, having premeditated the entire scenario, escape, resulting in the tragic shoot-out finale.
A brisk editing style courtesy of Daniels ensures that the action never slows down. The topnotch trailer precedes the feature and presents the highlights of the tape in a very entertaining manner. Quadrants of poster-ized freeze-frames comprise the informative opening credits and provide many of the transitional scenes between acts. Careful attention to locations, props and western apparel should see an art direction nomination for Sharp Shooters. The uncredited horses are a treat, as is the opportunity to see half of the cast riding them. The twangy strains of the soundtrack assembled by Joe Z., though not typical of the music associated with porn, is, nonetheless, sexy and mood-enhancing. This daring and creative musical assemblage is a definite pre-nom.
