This one of the most extraordinary gay adult features ever made. It's uniqueness alone makes it something to see. Fratrimony is the ultimate gay brother story. It has a cast of two, playing young brothers Gary and Steve who find themselves along together one weekend with their parents (predictably) absent. The return from college of older brother Butch Taylor has awakened all sorts of urges and itches and stuff in little brother Tim Lowe, who determines to seduce big brother as if his life (and career) depended on it.
Fratrimony may be a dumb title, but the feature itself holds up remarkably well. It's written and performed beautifully. Besides romantic love between two men, it's a story of one young man's self discovery. Lowe plays Gary to perfection.
Somewhat problematic, however, is the believability of the relationship between Lowe and Taylor. We're expected to have a lot of faith in the casting of Taylor, whose character is supposedly 15 months older. Try 15 years. Taylor does a good job, and with his brunette dye job almost looks like a broader and somewhat more leathery Lowe.
One predictable criticism of Fratrimony I've heard is that there's too much talk and not enough sex. If anyone for a moment doubts that strong characters and situations detract from the excitement of sexual encounters, they're dead wrong. Fratrimony proves this fact.
