HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—The UK branch of Vice.com talked with adult actress Tanya Tate regarding the way she, a sex worker, does her taxes. As a performer with over ten years of experience in the industry, Tanya explained that she recognizes her legal commitments but also the advantages talent have when it comes to writing off business necessities.
"Taxes can be overwhelming for some performers," said Tanya. "There is a lot I've learned in my career, and I was happy to share my experiences with Vice."
Vice also talked with Valerie August, described as an "escort and high-class companion," who went into a bit more detail, warning that not only did the UK taxing authority expect a tax return to be filed by anyone making more than £12,500, but that if the sex worker has a side gig as well, such as selling signed photos, shoes, and items of unused clothing from video shoots, income from that should be reported too.
In a similar vein, Tanya told Vice that "I might go to the shops and go into the changing room with clothes and stick the phone down on the floor,” referring to the popular practice of live streaming from a changing room while trying on outfits bought by her fans.
