LOS ANGELES—The survey by men’s lifestyle site Sugarcookie.com asked more than 1000 men and women about their Instagram habits and uncovered a thriving market for sex.
Instagram is famous for its endless supply of sexy photos from celebrities, models and regular girls. And the Sugarcookie survey found nearly half of female users post sexy photos to the app.
The reasons why were diverse with 1 in 5 saying they need to do it to get more followers, 23 per cent saying they like the attention or that they want to be a model and 30 per cent because it’s empowering.
Sugarcookie.com founder Harriet Sugarcookie said “I can relate to this being empowering. Posting photos to social media over a period of years helped me boost my own confidence and what girl doesn’t enjoy some positive attention?”
The survey revealed that half of men regularly masturbate to material they find on Instagram and girls weren’t surprised as 45 per cent of girls expected that to be the case. Shockingly more women than men use Instagram to get off, with 65% of women admitting to the practice.
“I’m not surprised by this as most porn is made for a male audience so it’s natural that girls will find other places for inspiration” said Sugarcookie.
Girls are also taking things further with 1 in 5 admitting to dating someone they met on the app.
More surprising perhaps is the fact the survey revealed that many girls receive messages offering money for sex or nude photos and videos. It turns out 2 in 5 girls said they were offered cash for sex - and 9% of those offered accepted the offer. While 45% of girls were offered money for nude photos and videos and 1 in 20 accepted.
Sugarcookie said “It seems that some guys see a sexy photo as an advertisement for porn or sex rather than the savvy business move to get more followers or the personal confidence booster it usually is. That said, it seems there are plenty of girls happy to provide these services and Instagram contains a thriving market for sexual services if that’s what you want.”
