San Francisco PornFilmFestival Reaches Its Crowdfunding Goal

SAN FRANCISCO—Pink & White Productions has reached its crowdfunding goal and raised more than $7,100 in its Indiegogo campaign for the online debut of the 2020 San Francisco PornFilmFestival and the new streaming platform which will make it possible.

With nine days still remaining in the effort, the campaign will transition to "In Demand," meaning those who miss the deadline can still donate for early access to festival passes and other rewards before the festival premieres in August.

The fundraising covers artists fees for more than 100 participating directors and guest curators, equipment and broadcasting tech, and closed-captioning in several major languages. The campaign also aims to include a stipend for special guest moderators and increasing artists' fees.

When coronavirus cases surged earlier this year, film festivals throughout the world from Sundance to Cannes to SXSW announced their cancellations. Now, many festivals are taking their events online, turning to virtual streaming on platforms like Vimeo, YouTube and Netflix. However, these options are not available to presenters who showcase adult productions because most platforms specifically prohibit sexually explicit content.

With COVID-19 making in-person events and travel unsafe for the unforeseeable future, Pink & White Productions agreed to create an online festival platform that welcomes porn and pays its artists, but is also accessible to an international audience.

The campaign marks the third time the company has turned to crowdfunding, which was encouraged by the success of its previously fundraised movies, Snapshop and Chemistry Eases the Pain. The move was embraced by many in the sextech community, which champions innovations that succeed despite being ostracized for focusing on sexual health and pleasure. Among those showing their support were sex and tech writers Val Elephante, Lux Alptraum, Cindy Gallop, Ayesha Hussien and Andrea Barrica.

General tickets will be available beginning Aug. 6, when two weeks of "pre-show" titles will begin streaming. After the live festival runs from August 20 to 22, a selection of highlights will stream one-day only on August 23.
