San Francisco PornFilmFestival Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

SAN FRANCISCOPink and White Productions has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the 2022 San Francisco PornFilmFestival, set to take place online and in person at the Brava Theater from Aug. 24 to 27.

The $9,000 fundraising goal will cover the cost of theater rental and secure artists' fees for over 90 participating moviemakers. Festival director Shine Louise Houston described contributor perks that include festival passes, commemorative T-shirts and memberships to PinkLabel.tv.

The San Francisco PornFilmFestival launched in 2020, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first public porn screening in the USA, the San Francisco Erotic Film Festival in 1970. Due to COVID-19, the premiere was completely virtual, thanks in part to a crowdfunding campaign that ultimately raised over $11,000 to support the cost of building an in-house live stream platform. The 2021 festival offered a hybrid festival with screenings broadcast live from the Brava Theater. Attendees included Golden Age era icons, ecosexual artist Annie Sprinkle, and C.J. Laing of Barbara Broadcast fame, while on stage, Criterion Collection notable movie historian Jenni Olson of the Bressan Project shared a talk with Robert Adam, star of Arthur J. Bressan Jr.'s 1974 classic Forbidden Letters, and Nan Kinney of Fatale Media, who presented Safe Is Desire and spoke about the 1993 erotic movie in today's context.

In 2022, the event returns as a hybrid in-person and online festival, with two days of theater program simulcast live to virtual festival attendees. Theater programs will adhere to COVID safety guidelines in accordance with the State of California and the Brava Theater. Online programs will offer a safe and accessible event for viewers tuning in from around the world. Featured productions span classics to contemporary, including Fred Halsted’s 1974 L.A. Plays Itself to kick off the Online Opening Film Showcase, while Gene Graham’s contemporary documentary on Black America through the underground world of exotic dancing in This One’s for the Ladies shines as the festival’s Closing Night Film. The vibrant and sex-positive history of the Bay Area is showcased through selections including Submission Possible: San Francisco, in which erotic artist Madison Young reunites with local sexual luminaries Annie Sprinkle, Elizabeth Stephens, Midori and Cleo DuBois. Raw! Uncut! Video! chronicles the rise and fall of homegrown gay porn studio Palm Drive Video, and explores how a devoted couple helped battle a devastating health crisis by promoting kinky sex. Contemporary short films by Bay Area artists include Chaac and Yum by director Roberto Fatal and performers Xav S-F and Snowflake Calvert (Daniel Arizmendi), L’Ingrediente Principale by Isis Tatiana Hockenos and Haley Myer, East Bay Brats 4 by the East Bay Brats, Transform by Domina Mara, and Eternal Flame by collaborative duo BeyonDeep.

Organizers present the movies from the Bay Area and internationally in a festival that strives to "push the genre" and expand the cinematic landscape of sexuality.
