Ricky Greenwood Takes Director of the Year Honors at AVN Awards

LOS ANGELES—Adult director and writer Ricky Greenwood has been named Director of the Year at the 2022 AVN Awards, held virtually at a television studio in Los Angeles last Saturday night.

The veteran French Canadian helmsman was honored for his work which encompassed a number of studios and productions that together earned 57 nominations for his casts and crews at the annual awards show. The 57 nominations included two for Grand Reel for his work on MissaX’s Blue Moon Rising and Under the Veil.

His Under the Veil stars Tommy Pistol and Kenna James earned Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress honors. Pistol also scored another trophy for Best Actor - Featurette for his work with Greenwood on MissaX’s "Second Chance." The veteran director's go-to makeup artist and special effects genius, Alexxx Moon, won for Best Makeup, for his work on Blue Moon Rising.

Greenwood's all-girl movie Sweet Sweet Sally Mae from Adult Time was also recognized. The homage to 1970s exploitation cinema with the tagline "She’s Bad… She’s Mean... She’s A Lovin’ Machine!" starring Ana Foxxx tied with Girlfriends Films’ Lesbian Ghost Stories 5 for Best Lesbian Movie or Limited Series.

And his Mile High projects in the trans and taboo relations genres also scored him two more wins. His release Family Cheaters from Family Sinners won Best Taboo Relations Movie or Limited Series. And his series TS Taboo from TransSensual won Best Trans Series or Channel.

“I honestly wasn’t expecting to win Director of the Year and was pretty much speechless when it came time to speak. I work with some of the best casts and crews in adult, which wouldn’t have been possible without them," Greenwood said. "I’m also happy that AVN saw the brilliance of Tommy and Kenna’s performances in Under the Veil. Sweet Sweet Sally Mae was a pet project of mine, and I was lucky that Adult Time was behind me 100 percent. It was a fun movie to make and Ana really killed it in her leading role. Thank you, AVN, for eight incredible wins for my casts, crews and myself.”
