"You want me to spill the beans?" is how the episode began.
DocuBay, the Indian documentary streaming platform, has released Bad Toys Inc., a 45-minute original release exploring India’s sex toy industry, on July 26, offering a peek into the country’s evolving attitudes towards pleasure products.
The documentary is a no-holds-barred look at the business of pleasure toys in India. While the global sex toy market is worth $65 billion, India itself is projected to touch six billion dollars in the next five years.
Bad Toys Inc. also charted the geography of sex toys, and how every Indian region has its preference for the type of pleasure toys. From Assam embracing the most amount of BDSM gear, Mumbai seeing maximum sales of fetish products, and West Bengal being a fan of edible underwear. "Bad Toys Inc." also unraveled how, where, when, and sex toys are used.
The documentary also delved into consumer stories, and industry insights, featuring interviews with sexologist Dr. Prakash Kothari, a luminary in the Indian sex toy Industry, IMbesharam.com, and other founders of emerging sex toy startups, like Sangya Project, That Sassy Thing, and LoveTreats. It also touches on legal aspects and the historical context of pleasure accessories in India. Several individual contributors like Aili Sengetti who is a sex coach, and Samir Saraiya who used to operate thatspersonal.com (now closed) have also participated in sharing stories that usually are not spoken about India's sexual preferences and shopping habits.
Armani, co-founder and COO of IMbesharam.com summarized, "The toy is merely a piece of rubber or silicon; it is your imagination, what it makes it out to be."
