WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.—ATMLA's non-sex actor Daniel Shar will reprise his comedy show "Near Sex For Work" at the Lyric Hyperion Theater & Bar in Silverlake on Saturday, Aug. 31. Shar's first performance of "Near Sex For Work," in July, sold out.
"Near Sex For Work" is a multimedia-filled solo show exposing the true story of how one timid man has found fleeting moments of confidence through his jobs facilitating other people’s orgasms. Since first getting hired by an adult toy store—while still a virgin—Shar has achieved unlikely success in a number of sex industry jobs, from running women’s OnlyFans accounts to playing non-sex roles in adult productions. "Near Sex For Work" takes audiences on a rollercoaster of climactic twists and blue-balling turns as Shar chronicles his ridiculous résumé with support from the most sensational videos, audio clips, and images he has collected along the way (and censored for this production). Fans of comedy shows that go deep will gush for this show’s potential to reduce the shame and stigma around sex and its industry while also highlighting the reality that underneath humanity’s massive range of sexual preferences, everyone is ultimately just craving connection.
"The debut night of 'Near Sex For Work' was one of my favorite experiences in the twenty-plus years I've been writing and performing comedy," Shar said. "I'm super excited to do it again on August 31st — and hopefully many more times after that!
"I can't thank ATMLA enough for taking a chance on me and helping me carve out this niche for myself as a non-nude, non-sex, comedy acting specialist in porn. My agents have enabled me to work with so many of the top companies, directors, and performers, and to be honest, I think we've all been pleasantly surprised at how well it's been working out for everyone."
"Daniel contacted me 18 months ago to inquire about representation for non-sex acting roles only, a concept that I had always considered but never pursued," said Mark Schechter, talent agent and owner of ATMLA. "This was the perfect opportunity and I quickly added him to the roster. Daniel's volume of work is impressive and demand continues to increase as more and more directors and studios utilize his talent and the value he brings to set. I am looking forward to seeing his live comedy show and I encourage all to come out and enjoy the evening with us."
"It is always a pleasure to have Daniel on our sets as an actor," Bree Mills, chief creative Officer at Adult Time said. "He brings 200 percent to his characters, no matter the genre. I'm proud to see his comedy shows doing so well. They are a real testament to his talents!"
"Daniel is naturally funny. He is one of the few actors I let improvise on set, said award-winning director Ricky Greenwood. "Every time we have him with us, we know it will be a good day—because we will all laugh a lot."
"I have many wild and hilarious stories from my ongoing decade-plus in the sex industry, and I love sharing as many of those as I can in this show, but showing my non-sex extra work is where things really hit a new level of fun," Shar said. "It's a thrill to have a live audience watch some of my favorite clips from scenes I've been in. Porn is usually such a private thing for people that even if they stumble across something funny, they probably won't feel comfortable sharing and laughing about it with anyone else. I love being able to change that by swinging for the fences comedically when I'm on set, and then giving this show's audience the communal experience of witnessing and laughing together at some of the most ridiculous porn moments they'll ever see."
"Near Sex For Work" will play on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyric Hyperion Theater & Bar, 2106 Hyperion Avenue in the Silverlake district of Los Angeles. The show is for adults only. It does not contain any visible nudity, but there will be censored adult content and sexually explicit language.
"Being weird or creepy about all this is strictly prohibited," Shar added.
