LOS ANGELES—One of the ways the adult industry has begun to mature can be seen in the fact that it's beginning to challenge societal memes about religion with movies like B. Skow's In The Flesh (2015), and now Sweetheart Video’s Confessions of a Sinful Nun, starring Charlotte Stokely in a pivotal role.
Charlotte plays the appropriately devout Sister Charlotte and all goes as pious as usual until Sister Lily (Lily Adams) shows up at the convent. Charlotte, who has spent a lifetime "loving God" and "avoiding sin" soon finds herself in an awkward situation: temptation.
While simple temptation may not break any of the Ten Commandments, a woman lusting after another woman is one of those activities for which the Old Testament counsels death—and depending on one's reading of scripture, there might be a little problem with blasphemy, too, not to mention how it must push the bounds of maintaining one’s virginity. So what’s a woman to do? She may be married to God, but she’s human. She has needs, feelings, desires.
And what will Mother Superior (Nina Hartley) say or do if she finds out?
“This is a very exciting role for me to play,” Charlotte said. “It’s so fun and dirty and really pushes the limits, even for adult content. You just don’t see that much religion-oriented material out there. I know there will be some unhappy with it, but I think they did a great job of making the movie emotionally real while sexually hot and explicit. I think a lot of people are going to enjoy this movie.”
The movie also features Penny Pax, Lea Lexis, Mona Wales, Darcie Dolce and Riley Nixon.
Confessions of a Sinful Nun was directed by newcomer Ricky Greenwood, his first adult movie after studying film and working in production for a couple of years.
“I’m a huge fan of the genre, the nunsploitation film,” Greenwood told AVN.com. “I think people will love it. When you see a porno with nuns, it’s dirty nuns and latex suits and stuff like that. I don’t want to do that.” The cast, he said, looks “like real nuns. They act super-natural. Most of them do not have tattoos or you can’t see them.”
He also said Charlotte was an easy selection for the lead.
“I know she is a good actress. She does other things outside of porn. She surprised me a lot.”
In Confessions of a Sinful Nun, Charlotte works with Penny, Riley and Lily. She also has a solo scene. Previews of the two scenes can be found here and here.
