In “Trial Separation,” directed by Stella Smut, trans performer TS Foxxy plays a troubled wife who lives away from her husband in a trial separation, but he fails to show up for their latest session with their marriage counselor (Foxxx). Foxxy gets a text he won’t be coming, and she decides she’s done with him. Foxxx tells her she supports her decision.
Foxxy wonders why women are better at listening and asks why she can’t find a man like that. Foxxx suggests she date women and explore her feelings, and not worry about being “straight.” Foxxy also takes it as a signal to move in and kiss Foxxx, who’s thrown off guard. Foxxx’s interested but says it would be unethical. Foxxy tells her the marriage is over, and Foxxx isn’t their counselor anymore. The two then have sex on the counseling couch.
