Amber Lynn's Podcast Welcomes Punk Rocker David Philp Tonight

LOS ANGELES—Amber Lynn’s "Rock-N-Sexxxy UnCensored" podcast welcomes rocker David Philp, frontman of the pioneering UK punk band The Automatics, tonight at 7 PT on the United Broadcasting Network and the show’s website.

Fans can all in at (323) 524-2599 to talk live with Lynn and Philp.

“Punk rock is having a moment right now because of the Hulu series Pistol, so I want to hear what David Philp has to say about what it was really like hanging out with those guys,” Lynn said.

The band reportedly has former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, known as "Jonesy," playing on some tracks for The Automatics’ upcoming album.

The Automatics played with bands including the Sex Pistols and the Damned at London’s famous musical venue the Marquee Club. Produced by iconic impresario Steve Lillywhite (U2, Morrisey, Thompson Twins, The Killers, among others), the band’s first hit single, "When the Tanks Roll Over Poland Again," was released in 1978. Since then, Philp has brought British punk to Japan and been interviewed by Ira Glass for NPR’s “This American Life.”

The Automatics’ original line-up featured Philip on vocals and guitar, along with Wally Hacon (guitar), Bobby Collins (bass) and Ricky “Rocket” Goldstein (drums).

In May, the band reached the Top 10 of UK radio DJ and author Mike Read's Heritage Chart with "Cold Steel Serenade.” The single features UK musician Neil Frost and has appeared on several UK charts since it was released this year. Frost also was featured on The Automatics’ single “Wild Ride Through Wonderland,” from the album Star Maps of the Underworld, released in 2021. A video for “Cold Steel Serenade,” produced by Screaming Egos Productions, “captures what I hope the song reflects—the brutal oppression of the Ukrainian people by an evil dictator,” Philp said.

“Back then, times were tough and bands—especially punk bands—had no problem holding up a middle finger to authority, so, I’d love to know what they think about politics now, since the whole world is like a blazing dumpster fire,” Lynn said. “Today, we need punk and metal bands more than ever, I think.”
