HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—As if adult movie director Will Ryder wasn't already enjoying enough success this year—releasing the comedy hit Flight Attendants and five sexy parodies—he hit another peak on Oct. 12. That's when Ryder picked up a lifetime achievement award at the 17th annual NightMoves Awards, hosted by Ron Jeremy and Teagan Presley in Tampa, Fla.
“At first I thought they called the wrong guy,” Ryder joked when asked about the award. “When I learned that NightMoves wanted to bestow this incredible honor on me I thought, ‘Wait a minute—aren’t I too young to be getting a lifetime achievement award?’ But then newbie talent Courtney Page handed me a beer and called me ‘old man,’ and I knew right there that the timing was perfect.”
Veteran adult movie reviewer Art Koch presented the award onstage to Will Ryder and had plenty to say about the director and his alter-persona Jeff Mullen from the stage, and then later backstage where strippers changed costumes and porn stars gathered over cocktails.
“There’s been nobody in the adult movie business in recent memory who has had the impact that he has had and with such an impressive track record of hit movies. We all knew he was the best choice to receive our award this year,” Koch said from backstage at the Dallas Bull nightclub in Tampa, where the show was held.
“It really is an honor,” Ryder said. “Sometimes we get so busy at X-Play producing, directing and marketing our movies that we forget that we’re having a real impact on the overall sales of this business. All I know is that I love to tell a story and make people laugh, and if they can jerk one off in the process it’s a win-win situation.”
“Look at how many companies have jumped on the parody bandwagon because of Will Ryder,” Koch remarked. “That’s a testament to his vision and leadership.”
“The guy is a hit-maker, that’s for sure,” said Hustler/LFP Video creative director Drew Rose, who has known Jeff Mullen/Will Ryder for over a decade. “Nobody does it better.”

“I want to thank NightMoves. I had a great time in Tampa,” Ryder offered. “I love this business and just want to say stop giving it away for free.
“I’m talking to the companies, not the girls,” he joked.
