LOS ANGELES, Calif.—With the release of 2040, director Brad Armstrong has returned to the genre of thought-provoking, erotic science fiction he previously explored to great acclaim in the classic AVN award winner Euphoria. Starring Wicked Girls jessica drake, Alektra Blue, Kaylani Lei, Mikayla Mendez and Kirsten Price, the director's provocative look at the future of adult entertainment arrived in stores Sept. 30. Packaged as an elaborate three-disc DVD set, the movie has been selling so briskly that the company has already received reorders from distributors.
And just what is the movie that has customers and consumers everywhere talking? As a high-tech step into the world of tomorrow featuring authentic props and sets from some of today's finest A-budget sci-fi movies, 2040 puts forth an intriguing premise about a world where sex droids are used as performers in adult filmmaking. For the most part, humans have been replaced by "anabots" with the capacity to move, talk and, of course, make love. And with the advent of a new prototype called the MRA-5, they can even feel.
Known as Mira, the prototype anabot (Alektra) is brought on-set by director Dante Lords (Barrett Blade) to do a scene with a human named Ryan (a role that finds AVN award winner Randy Spears playing his own son). Everyone is astonished by how lifelike she is … and somewhere during the scene something happens. Mira begins to experience emotion. Mia and Ryan are soon bound by what will turn out to be a forbidden love.
But before long, it becomes obvious that Mira’s programming has a flaw in it, and that only time will tell just how close to human she really is. The stage is thus set for a tale of futuristic corporate intrigue that allows the impressive cast to stretch creatively in a myriad of new and interesting ways.
With a memorable rogues' gallery of characters in place, director Armstrong weaves a tale of forbidden love and cybernetic retribution set against a chilling futuristic backdrop where one's humanity can be measured in percentages. And Armstrong himself does a memorable turn as corporate heavy Duncan Caldwell, who goes on the warpath when he learns the technology his own firm initially funded is being exploited.
Calling it "my most ambitious project in a decade," the acclaimed actor/director has delivered a production so sprawling and complex it easily justifies its elaborate three-disc release. From the 13 full sex scenes (including a 14-person orgy) and treasure trove of extras to the stupendous special effects, locations and custom packaging, 2040 emerges as a true piece of computer-age erotica.
The commitment to quality also extends to the carefully chosen cast, which, in addition to Spears, Armstrong and the five luscious Wicked ladies, also includes Alexis Texas, Eric Masterson, Janet Mason, Jayden Jaymes, Jerry, Kayla Carrera, Marco Banderas, Mick Blue, Rocco Reed, TJ Cummings, Tommy Gunn, Tory Lane and many others.
Wicked Pictures President Steve Orenstein believes it’s this very commitment to quality that has inspired such early re-orders in what's commonly perceived as a depressed economy. "It’s heartening to see that even during these challenging economic times, there's still such a large and receptive audience for quality, high-end product."
National Sales Manager Bonnie Kail adds, "I'm extremely pleased to receive reorders on the first day of release; it really affirms the ability of a true blockbuster like 2040 to sell in extremely impressive numbers, regardless of the financial climate."
For his part, Armstrong is justifiably proud of his unique vision of the future of erotica. "This is the most challenging thing I've attempted since Euphoria, and I'm very pleased with the results. This one really hits on all cylinders. Everything we wanted to achieve is on the screen. From the acting and the sex to the props, locations and special effects, 2040 is the complete package."
