LOS ANGELES—Over the years, Wicked Pictures has racked up more than an impressive list of hits and awards, including sexy and intelligent science fiction epics such as 2040, Space Nuts, and Euphoria. With the help of AVN Award-winning director Sam Hain, the production company will reach for the Horizon.
In addition to Wicked Girls Jessica Drake, Kaylani Lei, Alektra Blue and a host of other A-list performers, the big budget, original sci-fi feature will include an impressive list of male and female talent when it is released in September of this year.
The ambitious mega-production is expected to be the first feature in either the mainstream or adult genres to have been shot completely with the new Red Epic camera system. An HD teaser for the project was released online July 15th on YouTube.
A high-tech step into the year 2085, Horizon unfolds as a civilization of extraterrestrial origin has invaded Earth. Of the planet's 9 billion inhabitants, approximately one third has been killed and nearly 2 billion more have been evacuated to a military base dug into the core of Mercury. Of the 4 billion humans who remain on Earth, none are expected to survive the next 48 hours.
Taking a last stand against the alien invasion, one Marine battalion remains on the surface. But they are in retreat, desperately attempting to reach the safety of the space cruiser Horizon, when events occur which place the future of the Earth and all of its remaining inhabitants in peril ...
In addition to the Wicked Girls, the universe depicted in Horizon features some of adult's brightest stars, including AVN Best Actress winner Kimberly Kane, Bobbi Starr, Misty Stone, Aiden Starr, Rocco Reed, Bill Bailey, Tony Desergio, Xander Corvis, and Danny Mountain.
For his part, director Hain couldn't be more thrilled with the cast he assembled, and he enjoyed the challenge of photographing them with some truly cutting-edge technology. "We shot the entire movie with the new Red Epic camera, the same camera being used on Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. But because of the lengthy post-production schedules of those two films, we expect to be the first movie of this kind, in either the mainstream or adult worlds, to be released."
He is quick to give kudos to his talented players and technicians for going above and beyond the call of duty in creating such high-tech adult entertainment. "The cast and crew were trying to accomplish something that has not been done before; to create an adult film that looks and feels like a mainstream film. I believe we accomplished our goal. I'm very proud of the fact that our crew is technically proficient enough to use the most advanced technologies currently available to filmmakers, such as the Red Epic system. Because of this, we have created a film that looks unlike any adult film ever produced."
To create the movie's many spectacular special effects sequences, Hain and his crew augmented the computer-generated effects and green screen imagery with large scale modeling work, a technique that's recently come back into vogue thanks to the efforts of David Bowie's son, famed sci-fi auteur Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code).
In the final analysis, Hain believes he has created something truly unique to both the adult and science fiction genres—a high-tech film that also places a welcome emphasis on characterization. "I'm proud of all of our technical accomplishments of course, but I also believe the performances, including those of three AVN Best Actress Award winners, are some of the finest I've seen in this industry."
