CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Peter North wound up in more trouble than he bargained for when he agreed to be jailed with Cindy Hope to shoot a scene for North Pole 73.
The scene was set up behind bars, with a real jail cell constructed in the studio. Made of solid steel, the cell even had a functioning lock and key. The scene was to be shot from outside the cell, with the camera moving inside with North and Hope in mid-action. But when that moment came, the cell door locked on the performers, and nobody could find the key.
Unfazed, the ever-professional North continued with the scene.
But when the key still didn't turn up, and Peter and Cindy couldn't get out, things got panicky enough to put the scene on hold.
"It was the real Mc Coy, as far as jail cells go," North said. "That kind of thing just doesn't happen during a scene. It got pretty intense inside that jail cell, and I'm not just referring to the sexual tension."
Eventually the key was found, misplaced by a production assistant. North went on with the scene, finishing with his signature pop shot that coats Cindy Hope.
"I should be jailed just for that!" North said.
