Penthouse to Open Chicago Area ‘Caligula’ Club

STONE PARK, Ill.—Let the games begin! FriendFinder Networks subsidiary General Media Communications has announced plans to create a Caligula-themed adult entertainment nightclub in a Chicago suburb. The deal with Opus entertainment calls for the 17,000 square foot club in Stone Park, Illinois to open by the end of the year.

Perry Orr, president of Opus Entertainment and a longtime Chicago-area club owner and restaurateur, said, "I opened dozens of successful restaurants and bars in the Chicago area, but this is the most exciting. Being associated with Penthouse and being the very first Caligula Club is a tremendous great experience and our whole team is proud to be part of it."

Jeff Stoller, Director of Global Club Licensing for the Penthouse and Caligula brands, added, "This launch is exciting for us. Caligula Clubs are a perfect extension of our flagship ‘Penthouse’ brand, of adult themed clubs. This Caligula Club will offer customers an exciting and unrivaled experience that we know is great for Chicago, and hopefully more locations to come.”

Targeting a mid-range clientele rather than the type of upscale patrons usually sought by Penthouse-branded clubs, the Caligula Club is aggressively marketing its Chicago roots in promoting the new club, which it says “will offer a full menu, completely remodeled interior, ample parking and one of the most enthusiastic owners in the Penthouse family, Perry Orr.”

In an announcement issued today, Penthouse magazine commented, “The Caligula brand is taken from the movie of the same name produced in 1980 by Bob Guccione, the founder of Penthouse.  The film is based on the infamous Caesar of Rome, Caligula. Caligula was known for his erotic exploits and wild parties, which is a theme that fits well with that of an adult nightclub.  The film was remarkable for its marquee team and cast, including writer Gore Vidal and stars such as Malcolm McDowell, Sir John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole, Dame Helen Mirren and Teresa Ann Savoy.”
