HILLSBOROUGH, N.C.—Every year, PHE, Inc, parent company of adult retailer Adam & Eve, “adopts” a needy child in Orange County, N.C. for the holidays to provide them with nice holiday gifts. This Angel Tree setup is done through the Orange County Social Services (OCSS), the same group that handles the annual Thanksgiving meal drive and many other programs that PHE favors as a way to give back to the community.
“The Holidays are really about seeing children smile, and I love that we can make that happen for some at this festive time of year,” says Gina Phelps, in-house coordinator of the Angel Tree drive. “It’s important to help those less fortunate, and I am proud of our employees for giving back every year. They never fail to step up to the challenge.”
The “Angels” range from babies to teens and provide OCSS with a wish list, which gets adopted by an employee or department to provide for the kids. This year, there were 30 Angels and loads of presents given. PHE started participating in the OCSS Angel Tree program about 20 years ago, and plans to continue to do so annually, along with their many other charity efforts.
This year, a last minute “unofficial” Angel family was added to the cause straight through PHE. A local police officer thought of PHE immediately when he and his family discovered another family in desperate need of help. Together with the officer’s family, PHE did not hesitate in helping them have a happy holiday.
With close to 375 employees, PHE, Inc is known in the community for its charitable attitude and efforts. The company was chosen as 2005’s Employer of the Year by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
