SAN FRANCISCO—Looking for a fun way to kick off Halloween weekend? How about a screening of Joanna Angel's Fuckenstein, a hardcore homage to Mary Shelley's horror classic? The porn queen, director and star will be in attendance to screen her seasonal treat about a monster with monstrous proportions ... and she'll be joined by a host of independent filmmakers from around the world at Good Vibrations’ seventh annual Quickies Short Erotic Film Competition, taking place October 26 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco.
At this celebration of sexy cinema, filmmakers will showcase works no longer than seven minutes. Guests are invited to meet Angel and the other filmmakers at a pre-party in the Castro mezzanine.
The cinematic fare will be a mixed bag in the best sense of the word, offering a little something for everyone. Good Vibrations film festival producer Camilla Lombard promises complete satisfaction: “Any way you like it—funny, serious, explicit, romantic, straight, queer, kinky, animated, or something else entirely—you’ll be glowing after this quick and frisky romp. Creativity, originality, and humor come together for an outrageous night that everyone can enjoy.”
One story follows two horny cyclists on a high-speed chase through the streets of Berlin in “Das Randy Radfahrers.” Others navigate the politics of a birthday three-way in “Reverse Cowgirl,” and delight in the simple romance between a man and his blow-up doll in “Plastic Love.” These are just a few of the entries in this year's competition. Awarded SF Weekly’s "Best Place to See Your (Talented and Attractive) Neighbors Naked," this year’s finalists include neighbors from Australia, Germany, Canada, Israel, and the United States.
Drag celebrity extraordinaire Peaches Christ and Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen start the night with the Halloween pre-party, taking place in the mezzanine with spooky tunes by the Cryptic Quartet, gory burlesque by the Can-Cannibals, cold cocktails, tasty bites and sexy giveaways. Then it’s on to the erotic short film competition, where drag divas Lady Bear and Hugz Bunny join Dr. Queen and Peaches Christ to present the films. The audience decides who gave it best, and the film with the most applause wins $1,500.
Good Vibrations' sponsors and partners for the event include LELO, Stockroom, Kheper Games Inc., Leather Etc., Vixen Creations, Twin Peaks Tavern, San Francisco Bay Guardian, East Bay Express, Bay Area Reporter, XBIZ, San Francisco Bay Times, Mix, Lexington, the Phoenix Hotel, Wet, Speakeasy Beer, Hot Cookie, The Sausage Factory, Evolution Fresh Juice, Good Releasing, and the Center for Sex and Culture.
