LOS ANGELES—Having sold over 15 million albums to date, Germany's Rammstein are widely considered to be industrial metal's most influential and commercially successful band.
A stylish, candy-colored parody of the Beach Boys and California surf culture, the group’s new video finds the band kicking up the sand with Wicked Pictures contract star Kaylani Lei and several of her bikini-clad girlfriends. Filmed on Sycamore Beach in Malibu, Calif., “Mein Land” (German for “My Land”), finds the exotic Ms. Lei and the gang sporting 1960s beach attire as they "innocently" party. As the video progresses, the action shift to 2012, with the band playing at the same beach while pyrotechnics explode around them and Lei indulges in a little lesbian dalliance with one of her comely friends.
The uncut version also features copious amounts of female nudity. “Mein Land” has exploded virally since it premiered on the band's official website, spreading quickly to Vimeo and YouTube.
The clip was directed by acclaimed feature filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund (Spun), who last worked with Wicked Pictures when he cast Jessica Drake and Alektra Blue in Lady Gaga’s big-budget “Telephone” video. A Grammy award winner for Madonna's Ray of Light clip in 1998, Åkerlund has since directed videos for Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Christina Aguilera, U2, Blink-182 and Britney Spears.
“I had so much fun,” Lei said. “The Rammstein guys were hilarious and totally fun to work with. We spent the entire day and night filming in Malibu with Jonas Åkerlund, who is just such an amazing director. I was honored to be a part of this project, and to work with such a great cast and crew."
