VAN NUYS, Calif.—It’s as regular as the coming of a new year: Every January, the AVN Awards presentation in Las Vegas recognizes the finest work in the adult entertainment industry, and every year artistic/edgy Evil Angel leads all XXX studios in AVN Awards nominations.
In 2013 Evil Angel and its directors again lead the pack, earning a whopping 151 AVN Awards nominations. Prominent among those nods are the 18 garnered by Voracious, the ambitious vampire epic created by pioneering director and Evil Angel founder John Stagliano. Describing Voracious, the director known as “Buttman” says, “For sure there is lots of ass play, but this is not at all like a Buttman movie in terms of style.” He refers to his award-winning, hard-core fetish-fashion trilogy when he adds, “I wanted to do another feature film like Fashionistas.”
Voracious gathered nominations for Best Drama, Best Director — Feature (Stagliano), Best Actress (Brooklyn Lee), Best Supporting Actress (Lea Lexis), Best Supporting Actor (Steve Holmes), Best Screenplay (by Stagliano, Lee and Lexis), Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Editing, Best Music Soundtrack, Best Packaging, Best DVD Extras, Best Overall Marketing Campaign—Individual Project and Best Web Premiere as well as Best Three-Way Sex Scene (Lexis, Lee and Manuel Ferrara) and Most Outrageous Sex Scene (Lee and Rocco Siffredi in “Clothespin Head”).
Evil Angel directors Mike Adriano, Joey Silvera and Bobbi Starr were each nominated for Director Of The Year (Body Of Work). Best Director—Non-Feature nominations went to Jonni Darkko (for Angels Of Debauchery 9), Belladonna (Kristina Rose: Unfiltered), Adriano (The Spit And The Speculum) and Ferrara (Slutty & Sluttier 16). Best Director—Foreign Non-Feature nominations went to Siffredi (Aliz Loves Rocco), Nacho Vidal (Fucking Tour), Christoph Clark (Jessie Volt Is My Sex Toy) and Timo Hardy (Party Hardy). Noted Evil Angel General Manager Christian Mann, “As a director-driven company, it’s gratifying that we got so many director-oriented nominations.” AVN recognized the work of 20 different Evil Angel directors with nominations.
Evil Angel grabbed AVN awards mentions in a diverse range of categories, everything from Best Overall Marketing Campaign—Company Image to Best Membership Site (EvilAngel.com) and Best Studio Website (EvilAngelVideo.com), even Best Educational Release (Belladonna’s How To: Fuck!).
Several Evil Angel directors were nominated for their on-camera sexual performances. Starr is a candidate for Female Performer Of The Year; Adriano, Vidal and Ferrara are competing to be named Male Performer Of The Year. Already a four-time Male Performer Of The Year winner, Ferrara will be inducted into the AVN Hall Of Fame at this year’s ceremony. Male Foreign Performer Of The Year nominees include Siffredi, Hardy, David Perry and Omar Galanti. Belladonna and Kevin Moore also received nominations for individual performances.
It’s hard to think of a sexual variety not covered in Evil Angel’s list of nominated releases. The studio picked up nominations in categories such as Best All-Girl Release and Series; Best Anal Release and Series; Best Big Bust Release and Series; Best Fem-Dom Strap-On Release; Best Foot/Leg Fetish Release; Best Gonzo Release; Best Interracial Release; Best MILF/Cougar Release; Best Oral Release and Series; Best POV Release and Series; Best Transsexual Release and Series; Best Young Girl Release and Series ... the list goes on.
Starr’s Occupy My Ass and Adriano’s The Spit And The Speculum both got nominations for Clever Title Of The Year.
The 2013 AVN Awards will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Adult business luminaries will walk the red carpet from 6-8 p.m.; the awards ceremony begins at 9 p.m.
