NEW YORK CITY—"Miss Howard TV" girl-turned-porn-star Britney Shannon will be reading political poetry by her favorite writer Lord Byron at "Sex, American Style" at the iconic East Village haunt 2A in New York City this Tuesday, September 17, starting at 8 pm in the upstairs lounge. There will be no cover or guest list.
"Sex, American Style" is a sexy literary event playing with politics as a theme on the upcoming elections and the infamous sex scandals of Anthony Weiner and Elliot Spitzer. It is hosted and presented by the trio of writers Eric Danville, the editor of Penthouse Forum, Girls of Penthouse and the author of The Complete Linda Lovelace; Robert Rosen, author of bestsellers, Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon and Beaver Street: A History of Modern Pornography; and Lainie Speiser, author of Confessions of the Hottest 100 Porn Stars and The Manhattan Madam’s Guide to Great Sex.
2A was opened in 1985 as an enclave for the indigenous artists, musicians, poets and freaks of then alphabet city. Its 2nd story floor-to-ceiling windows have seen parts of four decades pass beneath them on the corner of Avenue A and 2nd Street. For many years 16mm movies were projected across 2nd Street onto the wall of a neighboring building. Hilarity ensued. People had a blast. lovers met, friendships were born. The neighborhood has changed, but 2A is still 2A.
Britney Shannon, who is so passionate about Lord Byron that she had the poet’s face tattooed on her hand, is excited to be showing her intellectual side to the East Village hipster set.
"I read a lot of poetry but this will be my first time reading out loud to a live audience," Shannon said. "I’m always up for doing something completely different and I think people will be surprised by my passion for poetry. I’m very sexual and primal but I’m also very romantic and sensitive."
Shannon will be available before and after the "Sex, American Style" reading to meet fans, sign autographs and take photographs.
