NEW YORK, NY/LOS ANGELES, CA—For 2014, award-winning Wicked Girl and published author Asa Akira is expanding her horizons like never before. In addition to earning an Editor’s Choice for her Wicked Pictures contract debut Asa Gets Wicked, she’s celebrating the release of her new memoir Insatiable: Porn – A Love Story with high-profile media appearances, a Hustler Hollywood launch event and much more.
“When it rains, it pours, and lately it feels as though the opposite is true, too,” Asa enthused. "This week started off with my Wicked Pictures debut receiving an AVN Editor’s Choice rating, an honor given to very few movies per year. I believe Asa Gets Wicked, directed by Brad Armstrong, is the best movie I’ve made in my career thus far, so it makes me especially happy to see that others are enjoying it!
“Additionally, this week saw the release of my first book, Insatiable, and I’m just amazed at all the attention it’s getting," she added. "When writing it, my goal was to show this industry in an honest, positive light, and so far it seems to be doing the job. I’ll be ending the week with a book signing at the Hustler store in Hollywood, which I am so excited and nervous for. I hope a lot of people can make it out to celebrate with me!”
Her current trip to New York has provided a perfect example of Asa’s industrious approach to career multitasking; the tireless superstar finished her role in blockbuster creator Brad Armstrong’s romance-with-a-twist Aftermath before going on a press junket punctuated by appearances in such media outlets as Salon, INTERVIEW Magazine, CRAVE Online, Complex.Com and an extended piece in the New York Post. On Saturday, May 10, she’ll be appearing on NPR’s Weekend All Things Considered (check your local listings for times).
Turning to next week, May 15 will see Asa taking over Hustler Hollywood on the famed Sunset Strip at 8 p.m. to formally celebrate her memoir’s release. She’ll be signing books available for purchase at the store, and getting up close and personal with her Southern California fans. The first 25 people in line will receive a gift bag, and attendees will have chances to win special Wicked prizes. Hustler Hollywood is located at 8920 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA. This signing is coming on the heels of such other events as her appearance today at The Hundreds in Manhattan. Branding itself as the “world’s first social merchandising company,” this innovative retail chain will also be bringing her to their San Francisco location, 585 Post Street, Saturday afternoon, May 17, at 1 p.m..
In a world where porn has increasingly become part of the mainstream, there are still very few voices writing about it with thought and humor—especially from the inside. Writing with charisma and a keen sense of irony, Asa has something important to say about changing norms in women’s sexuality. While the industry is often criticized as objectifying women, the newest member of the Wicked family offers another view: that of a sexually liberated, smart young woman who falls in love every time she films a scene, not necessarily with her partner, but with the situation.
Editor’s Choice films. Published memoirs. Coast-to-coast mainstream press attention in print, online and on the air. The only thing more exciting than where Asa Akira has been is where she’s going.
