CYBERSPACE—The scandal surrounding international erotic model and web star Mia Isabella's affair with rapper Tyga, and her reaction to it, has been named as one of the most significant moments for trans rights in 2016 by Broadly, the online magazine of Vice Media, in a year end round-up. If it changed even just one heart and mind for the better, I am humbled.”
Moved by her struggles with being tabloid fodder when Mia’s relationship with rap star Tyga was revealed in the media, trans Broadly reporter Diana Tourjee flew out to Mia’s home in Las Vegas for an in-depth interview and photo shoot for a profile that was titled, “Beyond the Tyga Sex Scandal: The Real Life of Trans Porn Star Mia Isabella.”
“When this broke last year, my first memory of Mia resurfaced. It was an image of her nude body that I'd stumbled upon many years ago: I remember Mia's breasts were swollen in the photo above an upwardly angled phallus. Black sheets of straight hair fell over tan and ageless skin. She looked like she'd been pulled from Greek mythology,” wrote Tourjee in the article, “I was on the cusp of my own transition from male to female, and her image had a profound effect on me. It was this photo of Mia that made me realize that it's possible to change your sex.”
