DUBLIN, Ireland—Fluid Player, the free, open-source, HTML5 video player, has been updated with a host of new features, making it one of the most advanced open-source players available on the internet.
The new functionality features include:
Streaming: Now supports video streaming for both MPEG Dash & HLS streaming protocols, with adaptive bit rate and clarity.
New Control Bar Options: Playback rate—Enables users to play video at different speeds
Download Video - Option to download the playing video file
Theatre Mode - Scales video area to 75% height of full-screen mode
API Functionality: Enables easy manipulation of a number of player properties after initialization.
Poster Image: Support added for poster images, the default image an end user sees when the video control appears on screen.
Logo Control: Additional options added for player branding including setting a different logo image during in-stream ad playback.
Persistent User Settings: Individual settings for audio volume, speed and quality are saved in the users browser via Local Storage.
VAST
Fluid Player is aimed at publisher websites that show video content, which is why it supports a large range of advertising features allowing publishers to monetize their video content. Fluid Player is Progressive & VAST compatible, so that it integrates seamlessly with any ad network's video formats, it supports the VAST standard with multiple VAST tags: pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll and on pause roll. VAST Wrapper support to retrieve and play the ad(s) from downstream secondary VAST Tags. Additionally, the player supports linear video ads and non linear VAST tags for banners and images (gif / jpg / png).
More advertising features include:
Ad Text: Display a configurable call to action ad text message which can be shown when an in-stream ad plays, which can be displayed ‘top right’, ‘top left’, ‘bottom right’, ‘bottom left’. Ad text and position can also be set on a per ad basis.
Advertising Markers: Timeline markers can be added to indicate when advertisements will display.
