LOS ANGELES—Sssh.com founder and owner Angie Rowntree is being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame, Internet Founders Division, in recognition of her efforts to establish and grow a market for erotica made by women, for women.
“Since its inception, Sssh.com has become a favorite online destination for an extraordinary diversity of women of all ages and from all walks of life, in ways Angie herself never could have imagined,” AVN said in a release announcing its 2014 Hall of Fame inductees. “It is for this singular achievement, as well as for her invaluable contributions to the success of Wasteland.com, that Angie's place as an adult industry original is secure.”
Rowntree said that while it’s an incredible honor to be inducted into AVN’s Hall of Fame in any capacity, she’s particularly gratified to be recognized in connection with Sssh.com, calling it “an honor that seemed unlikely when I first started Sssh.com in 1999.”
“Being the first woman inducted into the Hall of Fame as the owner of porn-for-women website is an amazing feeling, especially given that so many people didn’t think there was a market for this sort of content back when I first launched Sssh.com,” Rowntree said. “I stuck with my goals for Sssh in spite of the skeptics, and it has grown and flourished beyond what even I had expected. This honor from AVN is another indication of just how far Sssh.com has come from its humble beginnings.”
Rowntree added that in the year ahead, Sssh.com will be adding new interactive features for the members that will further enhance the site’s value as a source of both entertainment and information.
