MELBOURNE, Australia—Ishotmyself.com is celebrating its 10th birthday with the release of 300 free, self-shot erotic images from their massive archives. The collection of handpicked nude photos from some of the site’s most popular and creative folios can be found under a banner located on the main page: on www.ishotmyself.com.
Since its conception in 2002, the company behind the site, Feck, has been an innovator and a leader in the production of ethical erotic web sites. Feck’s aim has been to make participation rewarding on every level, from shooting, to payment, to publication and beyond. The Ishotmyself project started with a simple idea: What if women were put in charge of their own image and took all their own pictures?
“To have their naked pictures turn up on the Internet is, for most people, their worst nightmare,” said Feck CEO and Ishotmyself creator Richard Lawrence. “So when we proposed Ishotmyself 10 years ago as a venue for ordinary women to submit nude portfolios, people told us we were dreaming if we expected anyone but porn actresses to submit.”
Nonetheless, since its launch in 2003, Ishotmyself has created a space for over 5000 women from all around the world to have fun, earn money, and contribute to positive erotic culture. Choosing just 300 photos from an archive of over 330,000 published images was well worth the challenge to celebrate the creativity and diversity of the site’s contributors in the “10 Years of ISM” feature.
About the next 10 years, Lawrence is cautiously optimistic. "The biggest challenge for the online adult industry is the proliferation of free porn, making it much harder to earn revenues for quality, original content,” he said. “But I see the flipside to that being an increased consumer focus on social responsibility in porn, and on that front Ishotmyself is already a solid leader. Using porn responsibly means being selective, considering the values behind the site, and also how the contributors are treated - and paid. And unless you're paying for your porn, you can't be sure the contributors are being well compensated."
