SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—GoDaddy.com, the world's largest provider of web hosting, domain name registrations and net-new SSL certificates, is preparing to be one of the first in the industry to offer Internet users the .XXX domain name extension.
"We've said from the beginning ... when it comes to dot-XXX, we are going to listen to our customers," said Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons. "A large number of our customers have spoken ... and there is a demand for the controversial new domain name extension—for both brand protection purposes and for new names. So what are we going to do? Go Daddy is going to give our customers what they want!"
The .XXX extension is specifically designated for the adult entertainment industry. It gives webmasters and visitors an easy-to-remember, directly relevant domain name and also affords Internet users, including parents, clear identification and warning about the type of site they are visiting.
Go Daddy met the requirements of ICM Registry, the operator of .XXX, to provide the domain name extension as soon as they were published and intends to offer trademark holders and existing adult domain owners the option to register the newly approved extension during what is known as a “sunrise period” beginning in early September. Go Daddy and ICM Registry plan to offer .XXX registrations to all eligible registrants thereafter, in early October.
"We know our customers will be well served with Go Daddy as a partner, said ICM Registry CEO Stuart Lawley. "We look forward to working with Go Daddy in the development and marketing of the new dot-XXX domain name extension. Go Daddy certainly knows how to market new concepts, especially when it comes to domain names and websites ... and they are acknowledged as leaders in customer service."
Pricing and registration dates are being finalized now.
