BrightDesire.com wins Honored Website at Feminist Porn Awards

BRISBANE, Australia—Indie porn website BrightDesire.com has been named an Honored Website at the 10th annual Feminist Porn Awards in Toronto.

The awards, run by adult shop Good for Her, recognize erotic entertainment that embraces a feminist perspective, with nominees judged on criteria including inclusivity, unique perspectives and high production values.

Bright Desire, which has been nominated twice before, was launched in December 2012 and features a variety of content including videos, erotic fiction and photography. The focus is on real-life couples and solo scenes and the films include a mix of heterosexual and queer content. There's also a smattering of experimental short films and documentaries.

"I'm thrilled to receive this award," website owner and director Ms. Naughty said. "I've been making and curating porn for women since 2000 and it has always been produced with a feminist, sex positive ethos. Having this award feels a bit like a vindication of what I've been trying to achieve over the past 16 years. Bright Desire is the home of all my online videos; I'm proud to be able to say it's now a Feminist Porn Award winner."

Ms. Naughty also shared an award for Best BDSM Scene for Instructed, made in collaboration with British spanking performer and filmmaker Pandora Blake. Ms. Naughty has previously received Honorable Mention Feminist Porn Awards for her films Connections in 2013 and Something Better in 2014. This year four of her films were nominated for awards including her first feature The Fantasy Project.

In a statement read before the announcement, presenters said the jury had decided to honor Bright Desire due to the high quality of all of Ms. Naughty's films, including those that were nominated. The trophy was collected by Vivienne L., a Toronto-based performer who appears in The Fantasy Project.

Ms. Naughty has a chapter detailing her work in The Feminist Porn Book and has given presentations on women and porn at both the 2013 and 2014 Feminist Porn Conferences in Toronto. Her films have also featured at international film festivals around the world, with Tease recently receiving an Honorable Mention at the Cinekink New York festival.

Bright Desire has featured in The Guardian, BBC News, U.K. FHM Magazine and Cosmopolitan.

The site recently a video-on-demand section where users can access individual films, including the newly released Fantasy Project feature film.

"I think feminist porn is part of the future of pornography," Ms Naughty said. "The industry is starting to recognize that we need to be more inclusive in our depictions of sex and that we need to embrace a wider audience—and that includes women. I like to think that with Bright Desire I'm changing the world one orgasm at a time."
