NEW YORK—Assylum.com has been nominated by adult review site RabbitsReviews for three RISE awards: the Holy Shit Award, the Masterful Moniker award, and the That’s Original award. Winners are to be announced later in February. The three nominations come a couple of months after the Assylum website was nominated for awards by both AVN and Xbiz. Despite having launched in August of last year—as an independent, personally financed site on the East Coast—Assylum.com has been rapidly gaining attention.
According to Dr. Mercies, owner of Two-Flame Media, LLC, which in turns own Assylum.com and the affiliate marketing site DerangedDollars, “Assylum.com was born out of passion and nurtured through consistent branding and adherence to our core business strategies. These include offering customers something genuinely fresh and exciting when they first sign up, something truly different to look forward to every week, and an authentic touch that makes the sex more than a superficial performance.”
Assylum.com straddles the crossroads of the anal, BDSM and extreme genres, a niche that Dr. Mercies believe to be on the smaller side but one that was ripe for new ideas and products. “As an independent producer with a modest budget and no pre-existing brand equity, we’ve had to work extremely hard to stand out and gain members,” Dr. Mercies said. “But when folks find us, they tend to stay with us for a long time—if for no other reason than we give them something new. We’ve had a number of members with us since August, when we launched with only 7 scenes, because every new scene is truly a new scene, not just the same sex act with different actors, and it’s worth waiting for to them.”
As Assylum.com continues to grow and bring in members and nominations, Dr. Mercies is planning the next big move for Two-Flame Media. “We’ve been testing the market with Assylum—learning about customers’ behavior and their response to innovations that we introduced. Our next step will be to expand out of the extreme anal BDSM niche to a larger market. To this end, we are planning porn 3.0--something we believe will revolutionize the industry by providing customers with a whole new experience of pornography. It will literally change the business model of porn, eliminate the threat of piracy, and make the current glut of free content irrelevant.”
