LOS ANGELES—Online payment platform AlertPay launched a brand new feature: 3-D Secure for all payments made by Visa or MasterCard.
Under the name Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode, 3-D Secure is an XML-based protocol designed as an extra layer of security for online credit/debit card transactions. It allows participating financial institutions identify who is making the payment and whether or not they are the authorized credit card holder.
The intention behind the creation of this feature is to enhance security when making payments online.
How it Works
When using the Send Money or Email Invoice features, making a payment through checkout or responding to a money request, the sender or receiver will be asked to enter their 3-D Secure password or security code. If they do not yet have a code/password, they will be prompted to enroll in the program to create one.
Important Note: Not everyone with a Visa or MasterCard will be asked to enter a 3-D Secure password/code; only people with cards from participating banks will be asked for a password/code.
Another important thing to note is that this is a security measure imposed by the various participating financial institutions and not by AlertPay, so if you require any assistance with your 3-D Secure password/code, you will have to contact your card issuer.
Benefits
* Merchants benefit from the reduction of "unauthorized transaction" chargebacks.
* Buyers and credit card holders benefit from the decreased risk of other people using their card to commit fraud.
We have implemented this feature as part of our unfaltering commitment to online security and customer confidence. We hope that this enhances your online experience with us and your merchant(s).
