With a focus on seniors with fulfilling sex lives, the author shares about her own experiences while interviewing Drake on the set of her award-winning sexual self-help release Jessica Drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex. The project was created in collaboration with acclaimed author and senior sex authority Joan Price, whose books include The Ultimate Guide to Sex After 50, Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud About Senior Sex, and Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk About Sex After Sixty.

In a statement, the editors detailed the article's genesis: "Over the course of three years, Ms. Jones and Ilena Silverman, a deputy editor at the magazine, discussed doing a story on the sex lives of seniors. During that time, Ms. Jones interviewed nearly 50 people over age 70 about marriage, dating, and hooking up, and discovered that not only were octogenarians having sex, but some were having the best, most meaningful sex of their lives. The feature tells the story of a diverse generation—married, single, straight and queer people of different races—who are finally investing in their pleasure."

In addition to serving as a contributing writer for New York Times Magazine, Maggie Jones teaches writing at the University of Pittsburgh. She has been a Nieman fellow at Harvard University and Senior Ochberg fellow at the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia University.

The article comes after Jones accepted an invitation in 2019 to visit the Los Angeles set for Jessica Drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex, where she joined Drake and Price for the interview.

"When I met Joan Price years ago, I realized immediately the impact she was making not only on seniors worldwide but also the educational community," Drake said. "She has a gift of authenticity that few can match. I’d wanted to collaborate with her for quite some time to make an educational resource for older adults—generations that missed out on sex education growing up.”

Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex explored a variety of topics, including relationship communication, discussion of trigger words and acceptable terminology between partners, along with expert advice and unique insights from Drake and Price. The project featured people age 50-plus in explicit demonstrations and sex scenes illustrating positions and techniques to enhance the sexual experience.

"Making Senior Sex with Joan Price was an incredible learning experience," Drake said. "Our cast—Bonnie, Joel, Marlene and Galen—were incredible to work with. And I'm very grateful to my awesome crew—Barrett Blade, Rae Threat, Triton, Jenna Valentine and Jo—for all their hard work and creative effort."

“It was an exhilarating experience to make this film with Jessica Drake, the cast of sexy seniors, and the top-notch crew,” Price said of the production. “Everyone worked together with a united purpose: to produce the highest-quality educational film about senior sex. I am so grateful to Jessica and everyone involved for sharing my vision and bringing it to reality.”

Originally released August 7, 2019, the instructional video was covered extensively by media outlets such as Yahoo! Finance, Synergy, Jezebel, Fast Company, SHE, Adult Video News and, currently, New York Times Magazine. Jessica Drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex went on to be named Best Niche Production at the 37th Annual AVN Awards in January 2020. It subsequently won the 2020 American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) Audio Visual Award.
