CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Harvard Sex Week—taking place Oct. 28 to Nov. 4—will feature courses, discussions, and workshops on a wide-range of sexual topics, including an interactive fetish course taught by CalExotics’ resident sexologist Dr. Jill McDevitt at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Nov. 1.
Holding three degrees herself, Dr. Jill McDevitt will fit right in with the well-educated Cambridge crowd. “Dr. Jill,” as she’s commonly known, will host “Sexual Fetishes from A-Z,” during which will cover everything from feet and formicophilia to latex and lactophilia. Students will learn how to explore fetishes in positive and safe ways and how to discuss fetishes with their partners. The course will feature several interactive elements, thanks to donations from pleasure products creator, CalExotics.
“It’s important to me that students not only have a fun time in the class, but that they leave feeling empowered and able to explore their sexuality,” said McDevitt. “I want to show that sexuality is broad and just because something is new or different, it doesn’t mean that it’s bad.
Harvard Sex Week, which was founded in 2011, is run by student organization Sexual Health Education and Advocacy Throughout Harvard College (SHEATH) and promotes a more thorough, modern understanding of sex and sexuality.
“It’s critical to talk about sexuality in an open and positive way,” says college senior and Harvard Sex Week Co-Chair Lita Peña. “The best way to learn to embrace one’s own sexuality and lead a safe, happy sex life is through education and discussion.”
