LOS ANGELES—Kim Airs, a well known sexuality and adult toy specialist, is in a new documentary, Orgasm Inc., which will be opening on Friday, April 1, at the Laemmle 5 on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
The film, which is a look at big pharmacies’ attempts to find the Viagra for women, has been well reviewed with Gloria Steinem weighing in with "...educational, entertaining and angering—perfect," as well as many other media outlets such as Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and The New York Times.
What started out as a video project when Airs was tapped to edit a series of erotic videos so women could "self stimulate" (the clinical term for masturbate) in a lab setting to test a new, prescription antidote for "Female Sexual Dysfunction," turned out being a quest by documentary film maker Liz Canner, Airs’ friend from Boston.
"I asked Liz if she could help me with the online editing of the films and she asked 'What are you doing this for?' Well, whenever you give a documentary film maker a good question, it sets them on the quest of finding answers, and thus began Liz's nine year journey to find out more," Airs said.
Airs is highlighted several times in the documentary, including presenting adult toys to the organization she has been a member of for more than 13 years, ISSWSH (International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health), of which many members have never laid eyes on adult toys despite the fact that they work toward the betterment of women's sexual health and well being.
"I am really looking to having my (West) Hollywood Red Carpet moment," Airs stated, noting the fact that she'll be participating in the post-screening Q&A sessions slated for the early evening shows on April 1 and 2 and the afternoon show on April 3. "I look forward to seeing lots of people in the adult industry to see this other facet of the more ‘technical’ and not necessarily beneficial sector of women's sex lives."
Airs is the founder of Grand Opening! sexuality boutique (now on the Web at GrandOpening.com) and is director of brand development for Brown Bag Party.
