NEW YORK—Adult retailer The Pleasure Chest has been stirring up excitement on the Upper East Side with in-store events designed to welcome the community and celebrate sex-positivity. Earlier this month, the adult boutique partnered with luxury pleasure product manufacturer Jimmyjane and Upper East Side staple Resident Magazine for a party that gave locals a chance to check out the store while enjoying complimentary drinks and entertainment.
A crew from CBS was present for the festivities. The Upper East Side retailer is currently featuring “Pioneering Pleasure,” an exhibit that highlights the innovations of both The Pleasure Chest and Jimmyjane in making pleasure products appealing and culturally accepted, as well as making pleasure-based sexual education more accessible.
The Resident Magazine event served as the official launch of Jimmyjane’s Hello Touch X, an innovative new toy that offers both vibration and electro stimulation. Representatives from Jimmyjane were present to answer attendees’ questions and to assist them if they wanted to experience the Hello Touch X’s unique sensations on their hands and arms. Guests were also invited to sample a variety of activities around the store, including mini workshops, chair massages, and pleasure forecasts—tarot readings focused on love and sex.
In addition, CBS's national program This Morning aired a segment last week that featured footage of the event with Jimmyjane. The program, which focused on adult product sales after the release of Fifty Shades of Grey, showcased The Pleasure Chest’s extensive kink section and included an interview with Jimmyjane’s President Robert Rheaume, who showed off the company’s “A Darker Shade of Sexy” kit curated for fans of the movie.
“We’re anticipating a renewed interest in pleasure products surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey’s release, just as there was when the book became a bestseller,” said Sarah Tomchesson, The Pleasure Chest’s director of business development and strategy. “We want our neighbors to know that there’s a comfortable, fun place nearby where they can come with their questions.”
“Fifty Shades has given new audiences permission to push the boundaries of sexual exploration,” said Alicia Sinclair, Jimmyjane's vice president of worldwide sales and business development. “We are seeing growing consumer demand for quality toys, but customers are also growing more adventurous. With the Hello Touch X, we’ve taken a toy that people already love and enhanced it with some extra kink.”
Pioneering Pleasure will be up through Feb. 28. The Pleasure Chest Upper East Side is located at 1150 2nd Ave. For more information, visit PleasureChest.com. You can check out the CBS segment at http://youtu.be/zK2q5UFN85Y.
