BALTIMORE—The Komar Company has announced the 31st Annual Green Valley North Turkey Trot to benefit Crohn's and Colitis Research.
The charity running and family event takes place annually on Thanksgiving morning and has become a Baltimore tradition put on by the volunteer efforts of the Komar staff. The morning includes charity auctions, celebrity guests, kids entertainment, event T-shirts, a canned food drive, and door prizes all culminating around the main event, a 5-mile run and 3-mile walk.
The event began more than 30 years ago when event founder Mort Hyatt was diagnosed with Crohns Disease. Already an avid runner he decided to turn his running group into a funding raising event. The first Trot raised just more than $300 for the charity. In 2013 more than 1,500 participants help raise more than $46,000, all of which was donated to Johns Hopkins Hospital and University of Maryland Medical System to aide in their search for a cure.
Event creator and Komar President Morton Hyatt is proud to report to date this event has raised more than $950,000 for the cause.
