OAKLAND, Calif.—This past weekend the owner of Feelmore Adult Gallery participated in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon. After 2:30:00 minutes, Nenna Joiner finished the 13.6-mile course through San Francisco’s scenic views.
“It started as a Facebook dare from a friend asking me to write a caption for a local sports store photo contest," Joiner said. "Receiving most votes by the day’s end, I would be guaranteed an entry spot in Nike’s 10th Annual Women’s Marathon.”
For six weeks Joiner logged more than 40 miles in training, and she 6 weeks and finished the race, never stopping a single step. “
You don’t know what you have inside until it’s your time," she said. "I figured that just like I stepped up to open Feelmore for which I had no experience, this would be no different but just as rewarding. I finished with a great time amongst 30,000 other participants.”
Training three or four days per week, sometimes after working a 16-hour shift at her store, didn’t deter Joiner from participating in the race, the proceeds of which will help light leukemia.
When Joiner wore her "Finisher" shirt to work the next day, a customer who had completed the full marathon and was wearing a shirt visited Fellmore 510. The idea prompted Joiner to offer a 10 percent discount to the visitor, as well as on the Nike Marathon Facebook page for others who visit wearing their shirt.
