Fascinations’ Exec to Lead Football Team in Alzheimer's Fundraiser

PHOENIX—Fascinations’ Chief Operations Officer Dustin Olive will lead the defensive team in the Alzheimer’s Association's Blondes vs. Brunettes Women’s Flag Football event on April 25, 2015 at Phoenix Community College in Phoenix.

Money raised for the event will go towards education, care and support of those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The campaign goal is to raise $40,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

According to recent stats, Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., with more than 5 million Americans currently living with the disease. It is the only cause of death among the Top 10 in the U.S. without a way to prevent it, cure it or even slow its progression. By 2025, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer's disease is estimated to reach 7.1 million, a 40 percent increase from the five million aged 65 and older currently affected.

“My grandfather and mentor growing up suffered from this horrible disease,” Olive said. “I watched him go from a brilliant man, with amazing charisma and intellect, to someone that could barely feed himself. His deterioration was swift and sudden, only to end in his death two short years later. This pained me greatly knowing what he was to me, and so many others he touched in his life.

“Win or lose, my true goal is a world without Alzheimer’s,” Olive continued. “With this cause I get to combine the love I have for my grandfather and my love for the game of football.”

For those who would like to cheer for Olive and Team Blondes on game day: kick-off is at 7 p.m. April 25 at Phoenix Community College in Phoenix.
