LAS VEGAS, NV—From the Maddox Gallery in London to the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas is not so very far a trip. The preeminent U.S. sex-positive museum says that unlike the slew of U.S. galleries that refused to host the piece for security concerns, it would certainly welcome Illma Gore’s “Make America Great Again” painting.
After Illma Gore displayed the painting on her Facebook page in February—a painting that depicts Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump naked and sporting a small penis—the piece has been censored across various social media sites, delisted from eBay after an anonymous filing of a Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and the artist threatened with lawsuits. Gore has also been threatened with legal action if she tries to sell the painting, now priced at a cool £1m (US$1,439,182) by London’s Maddox Gallery.
“As an institution built on the free discourse of sex, politics and culture, we have been following the question over Trump’s endowment since Marco Rubio mocked Trump’s small hands back at the beginning of the year,” Dr. Victoria Hartmann, Executive Director of the EHM said. “We offered to display the mold of Mr. Trump’s penis Pipedream Products offered to make after Larry Flynt said he’d pay to have the possible Presidential member examined by a doctor, and we’d be honored to display Illma Gore’s painting of Mr. Trump in all his glory now. Unlike other U.S. galleries, the EHM is not afraid to show work of a controversial nature… In fact, we feel it is important to do so.”
The Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas houses more than 24,000 square feet of permanent and featured exhibits designed to preserve wonders of the erotic imagination as depicted through the artistic expression of acts of sex and love. Owned and managed by Harry Mohney, the EHM is open 7 days a week and actually sits in the glare of The Trump International Hotel Las Vegas right off the world famous Las Vegas strip.
